Wolf Kill

Ungulates, like elk and deer, tend to head to water when they are being chased or if they are wounded. This elk skull, the heaviest part of the body when adorned with antlers, was the only thing not washed down stream after the spring run-offs in Grayling Creek. Probably meeting his demise by the crafty wolves, who were the last remaining keystone species hunted to extinction in Yellowstone, to be re-introduced back in 1995. A view of “The Crags” can be seen in the background.
